If you decide to participate in a clinical research study conducted by the CRC at The Ohio State University, you can expect that we will try to make your visit with us as comfortable as possible. Two of the major CRC resources you will be interacting with during your participation in the study are nursing and nutrition. In addition, you are welcome to speak with our Research Subject Advocate.
The Nursing Staff at the CRC is similar to other nursing units at the OSU Medical Center and James Cancer Hospital. We draw resources from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, including cardiac, cancer and pediatric. Yet we are unique because our focus is on clinical research.
Our CRC nurses participate in all aspects of clinical research. From the initial screening of each protocol to the implementation of each protocol, we are an integral part of each investigators study.
While focusing on accurate data collection and observations, our nurses are still able to establish relationships with you and your family or friends who may be coming with you to the CRC. The human aspect of clinical research is very evident in the individual care and attention we are able to offer our patients.
We take pride in our nursing skills as clinicians and are considered experts in caring.

Our Bionutrition Team wants to make you, our CRC research study participants, as comfortable as possible during your participation in these research studies.
Our technicians, dietitians, and exercise experts are involved in many aspects of hospital research.
Here are some of the things we do:
* routinely design, prepare, and serve meals where nutrients and foods are specifically controlled. Some studies require that we feed study participants for months!
* determine how many calories you might need to eat in order to keep a steady body weight
* determine what your body does when fed different amounts of fat, carbohydrate or protein
* analyze the typical foods you eat in order to find out how well your diet compares to standards
* measure the amount of muscle mass existing in your body
* provide nutrition and/or exercise counseling
* test you to determine your fitness level
If you will not be participating in the research procedures mentioned above, we still work to keep you comfortable. While you and your family member or friend(s) are visiting our unit, our entire Team can assist you by providing a snack or small meal. We truly appreciate your efforts to be involved in research. Thank You!

Each CRC in the United States has a Research Subject Advocate (RSA) to assure that all steps are taken to maximize the safety of study participants during the conduct of research protocols. Specific responsibilities of the RSA include written informed consent and protocol review, protocol compliance, data and safety monitoring, and education.

If you have further questions about participating in a research study, you may contact the CRC RSA at (614)293-9274.
